Safety Information

Overview:

The Three Creek Century is an annual cycling event held by the Harrisburg Bicycle Club that attracts upwards of 500 cyclists to beautiful Cumberland County.  We ask that you read through this safety information so that you, and others, can have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Safety Rules and Guidelines:

  • Riders must obey all Pennsylvania traffic and bicycle laws.
  • All riders must wear bicycle helmets while riding in this event. No exceptions!
  • As part of the registration process, including day-of-event registration, all riders must sign an acknowledgement of the event waiver, which reads:

I fully understand that bicycling activities involve risks and dangers of serious bodily injury, including viral infections, bacterial infections and other communicable diseases and illnesses, permanent disability, paralysis, and death.  I fully accept and assume all such risks and all responsibility for losses, costs, and damages I may incur, and I release the Harrisburg Bicycle Club and its respective directors, officers, volunteers, and staff from liability arising from this event.  If the registrant is a minor, I, as parent or guardian, release the Harrisburg Bicycle Club from liability for that minor.

  • Before you come to the event, check your bicycle to ensure that tires, brakes, gears, etc. are in good working order. We will have bicycle shop mechanics at the event, but they can do only limited repairs.
  • All road routes are on public roads that are NOT blocked off. Riders must be mindful of vehicle traffic at all times.
  • There are several railroad crossings on these routes. Please obey railroad signals. When crossing railroad tracks with your bicycle, do so at a perpendicular angle so your tires don’t get caught in the tracks.
  • Riders are encouraged to wear high visibility clothing and utilize head and taillights.
  • E-bikes are permitted at this event and must be operated in a safe manner.
  • The event is held rain or shine. Please assess the weather conditions before you leave home and come properly dressed for the day. We suggest wearing layers so that you can add or remove clothing as needed.
  • The Three Creek Century is a ride, not a race. Please be mindful of other riders on the routes. Follow normal cycling protocols such as saying “on your left” as you pass other riders.
