What is this?
Silver Spokes August 30, 2023 ANNOUNCEMENT
DEPARTURE POINT:
Mayapple Golf Course and Fiddlers Bar & Grill
1 Mayapple Drive
Carlisle, PA 17015
Leader: David Raup
Depart time: 9:00 AM
REST ROOM
The Pro Shop for the golf course opens at 0830a.m. You can buy energy bars or water bottles or whatever you need at the Pro Shop inside the building. Pro Shop entrance is on the eastern side of the building. When I used the rest room there, I bought something…a bar. As far as courtesy, consider buying something or offering to buy something.
LUNCH ARRANGEMENTS
The golf course restaurant is named Fiddlers Bar and Grill. They open at 11:00a.m. We have a lunch reservation there. Come prepared to be asked at some point whether you’re intending to stay for lunch. Telling me “Yes” or “No” doesn’t really obligate you to anything…. Though it would be nice to give the restaurant a count of people. They can adjust.
DESCRIPTION
This ride will likely include an out-n-back segment at the Cave Hill Nature Center. This is a total distance of about 1.5 miles for the out-n-back segment.
This will be approximately a 25-mile mostly flat ride, with one or more roundabouts.
SURFACES
The ride surfaces will be almost all paved, but with some crushed gravel as well. No grass. There likely will be about thirty yards of sidewalk riding in a place that’s nowhere close to a business district, and on a sidewalk that I’ve never seen anybody walking on.
EQUIPMENT
As always, helmets required. Bring water, the capability to repair a flat, basic tools, money.
PARKING:
Parking at Mayapple Gold Club is abundant. Suggest parking as far from the building as possible, along the edge of the main road.
ICE CREAM
This ride conceivably could be called an “ice cream ride,” because it features at least three GREAT places to get ice cream…. Now, I don’t know if anybody will want ice cream during a late morning, but, I can be flexible…? “Dessert first!” I have heard it said….
