HBC Picnic
This year's HBC picnic will be held at Fort Hunter Park on Front Street in Harrisburg on Sunday, July 15. HBC has rented the west pavilion on the riverside. Rides will be offered in the morning for all levels of rides from D to B, but there's plenty to do at the park even if you don't ride a bike. There's a great playground, a downloadable self-guided walking tour map, tours of the Ft. Hunter Mansion, horseshoe pits and the opportunity to do some boating or tubing on the Susquehanna River. Bring the whole family! https://forthunter.org
Lunch will be at 1:00 p.m. and HBC will provide the grilled chicken, hot dogs, water and Gatorade. Everyone who attends is asked to bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert to share. Bringing a folding chair is a good idea, too. You can also bring lawn games or other activities. Relax and have a good time with friends. The pavilion is ours for the whole day.

Name: Sheetz To Columbia Via NW Lancaster River Trail
Stats: 48 miles @1,330 ft. or 29 miles @ 730 ft. (Your Choice)
Speed: 11-13 mph
Start Location: New Sheetz At Middletown Road/Stoverdale Road, Derry Township
At 10:00 AM we’ll be starting at the new Sheetz parking lot in Derry Township and biking to Columbia along the Susquehanna River. Lori and I are using this as a training ride for the August Cancer Research Bike 100 Mile Tour that is being coordinated by Scott Silverstein and Howard Ross. So, please join us especially if you are doing the Cancer Research ride.
There is an option for you to meet us at the Falmouth Boat Launch which would cut about 19 miles off the ride resulting in a total ride of 29 miles. You would meet us at Falmouth at 10:45 AM.
We'll be stopping for lunch in Marietta around noon.
Here’s the Readers Digest version of the route: We’ll start at Sheetz and ride along Middletown Road to Middletown. There we’ll take Route 441 to Falmouth and pickup any bikers at the boat launch. We’ll again take Route 441 to Bainbridge where we’ll hop onto the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail. We’ll take the trail to Marietta and then to Columbia where we’ll take a break at the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center. Then we’ll bike back to Falmouth and Sheetz via the same route.
Please try to RSVP via email (not required but desired) so we have an idea of who is leaving Sheetz with us and who we are picking up at Falmouth.
I’ll cancel by 9:00 AM Monday via email in the event of poor riding weather.

The weather forecast for Saturday sounds pretty good so the ride route will be the semi-regular loop ride. The route will contain two 8 to 9 mile loops form the starting point so if you are short of time, new to group riding or not feeling energetic, you will have the option to make it a short ride. We'll start Saturday morning at 8:30am from Memorial Lake State Park, the UPPER ROAD LOT parking area. The entrance to the Upper Road Lot is marked and along Boundary Road. Restrooms are available at the parking area. Plan on riding from the park west toward Penn National and back on some of the flattest roads you will find in the area. Total distance will be about 18 miles and speed will be 9-11mph, depending on the group. No one gets dropped and we'll take breaks as necessary.

Start Location: Palmyra Borough Building
At 8:30 AM we’ll be starting at the Palmyra Borough Building (325 S. Railroad St., Palmyra) which is our same start location for the Tour ‘De Farms ride.
This ride is a combination of Larry’s Tour ‘De Farms, Chris’ Colebrook Rt. 241 Loop, and some new roads. In a nutshell, we'll bike from Palmyra to/around Conewago Lake in Mt. Gretna and then back to Palmyra. The overall climb of 1,070 ft. is low for 28 miles but we'll climb the hill on South Mount Pleasant Road as we leave the Colebrook area. This is a scenic ride through Lebanon County farmlands and around Conewago Lake in Mt. Gretna.
The D+ and C+ groups will be starting at a different location.
I'll cancel by 7:30 AM Saturday via email in the event of poor riding weather.
