Name: Northwest Lancaster County River Trail
Stats: 29 mi and 700 ft. climb
Speed: 11-13 mph
Start Location: Falmouth Boat Launch
Yep, we'll try this beautiful ride again! Last time we tried, we cancelled because the trail was flooded by the mighty Susquehanna. The river forecast looks a lot better this time around. Yeah.
For those of you who are new to the NW Lancaster County River Trail, the "trail" is new asphalt in great condition. Road bikes are suitable. The trail runs along the banks of the Susquehanna with nice views of the river, woods and fields. And, there are 2 eagles nests...one at Falmouth and one between Bainbridge & Marietta. The second one offers about as good of a chance that you'll ever get to see eagles up close at about 40 yards. After passing through Bainbridge and Marietta, we'll stop at the Columbia Crossing River Trail Center where there are restrooms, vending machines, seating and great views of the river. Then, we'll turn around and retrace our route back to Falmouth where restrooms are also available.
For directions, you can enter Falmouth Boat Launch in Google Maps and it'll get you there. Its a 14 mile car ride from our house in Lower Paxton Township. Its on the right hand side (west side) of Route 441 just south of TMI. Be alert, the right turn onto Collins Road down to the boat launch comes at you pretty quick. So, look for the cell tower adjacent to Rt 441 on the right just before turning right onto Collins Road. Also, look for signs to the Fallmouth Boat Launch and the NW Lancaster County River Trail.
I'll cancel by 7:30 AM Saturday via email in the event of poor riding weather.
