What a nice day for a ride! It may be the last warm day we'll have for a while, since temperatures are predicted to become more seasonable later this week. We had 21 riders and split into 2 groups after about 9 miles, with Dave Miller leading his group for 35 miles at a faster pace. Thanks, Dave!
About 8 miles into the ride, Ray got a flat and told us to go ahead without him. Bill B. stayed back to assist and we agreed to meet up at the Giant in Carlisle, the planned rest stop. Bill and Ray fixed the flat, and it immediately went flat again. The problem seemed to be with the rim strip. Bill headed to Carlisle to meet up with the rest of the group, while Ray used his charm to catch a ride with 2 kind older ladies who drove him back to the Mechanicsburg Giant to get his car. How nice of them! At lunch, someone reminded me that AAA now offers roadside assistance to AAA members that would return you to your car or place of choice. Good to remember when things like this happen.
The rest of the ride was uneventful as we rode through beautiful countryside chatting about e-bikes, Fall Tour, and other topics of interest.
About 16 of us enjoyed lunch on the patio at Hellenic Kouzina in Mechanicsburg.
There were 7 women on today's ride, the most we've seen for a while. Welcome back! It would be great to see more women riders and leaders. Remember that when you lead, you get to pick the route and the pace, so the ride can be whatever you want it to be. Silver Spokes rides are normally a C pace (11-13 mph) Contact Peter Vitins firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up to lead. He has several openings in November.
Hope to see many of you at tonight HBC Membership meeting. 7:00 p.m. HACC Midtown.
