Saturday Morning Social Ride. 27miles @ 11.5 mph
Albert T Brulo (L), Lori Brulo, Larry Riley, Laurie Atherholt, Chris Wright, Joanne Martin
Ride Name: Colebrook
Start Location: Briarcrest
Climb: 1,242 ft.
Weather At Start: 18 degrees, bright and sunny, and 6 mph SW wind
6 Eskimos traveled south on Saturday to bike and bask in the sunny warmth of an 18 degree ride that ended with the temp rising all the way to 25 degrees. Larry will have to check the record books to see if this was officially the coldest ride for the Saturday Morning Social ride.
Larry sported his battery heated gloves, Chris his insulated hiking boots with bike clips. Lori her fashionabley warm boots (she doesn’t clip in), while Laurie and Joanne were all wrapped up in an extra few layers of warm clothing, neoprene booties and balaklavas. I never could understand how dessert applied to the face could keep you warmer. There wasn’t much exposed skin. We were surprised that a kindly unknown homeowner offered to take our photo in his driveway…Chris said we could have been the Jesse James gang!
For all the cold, we were pretty comfortable and had a pretty normal ride. Larry said the coldest part of the ride was descending Mount Pleasant. No one disagreed.
