Spring Fling

The Spring Fling is the first big event of the year for the club, usually held in early May.   Participants bike to a destination within approximately an 80 mile radius of Harrisburg on a Friday.  The ride is unsupported so most people carry their gear on their bike with racks and panniers.  Day rides are then conducted on Saturday and the return trip is Sunday.  Past destinations have included Lake Raystown Resort, PA, Lewistown PA,  Thurmont, MD and Hagerstown, MD.  The Spring Fling is a great way to kick start the bicycling season and something to train for in early Spring.

King's GapTimeTrial

Held in early September since 2011, this event is a community outreach project for the Harrisburg Bicycle Club and its members.  It is designed to be a fun event and NOT a sanctioned USA Cycling race event.  All profits from the event registration fee will go to the Friends of Kings Gap.  Participants compete in a time trial to ascend the beautiful and popular 4-mile climb up to the mansion atop King's Gap State Park.

2017 event will be held September 9.

More information on this event can be found here.

Three Creek Century

Normally held in September, this is a scenic bicycle ride through the picturesque Cumberland Valley of Central Pennsylvania and is the club's primary fund raiser.  Typically attracting about 800 riders, this event is open to the public and offers rides of 25, 50, 75 and 100 miles.   The next century will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2017 and more information can be found here.

Fall Tour

For 42 years, this trek to Cape May, NJ in late September has been the highlight of the riding season.   This is a bike-down event with options to make the ride from central PA to Cape May in either 3  or 4  days depending upon your preference and arriving on a friday.  "Six-pack" groups look after one-another as they bike through southcentral and southeastern PA and Deleware.  The ferry from Lewes provides the final leg to the seaside destination.  Most riders choose to carry their overnight gear on their bikes with panniers and racks, although in 2013 for the first time a "supported" option was added.   Day rides are held on Saturday and then most participants drive (not bike) the return to central PA, although every year there are typically a few who decide to bike back as well. For 2017 the fall Tour will be held September 19 to 24.

Williamsburg

For the first time in 2013, a trip, similar in format to the Finger Lakes trip was planned.  Like the Finger Lakes trip, this is a drive-down event with participants arriving on a Thursday, bicycling Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning in the Williamsburg area and then driving home on Sunday.  In addition to some fine bicycling on both roads and bike paths, Williamsburg has something for everyone with a variety of historical, dining and shopping opportunities.

NOTE: The next Williamsburg Trip will be Oct. 2018.  Check back in early 2018 for info. Go here for complete details!
