Sue Casto - 2018 Annual Banquet Chair
The HBC 2018 Annual Banquet was held at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center on Saturday evening, November 17th. More than 130 guests enjoyed the social hour from 5:30pm – 6:30pm mingling with friends both old and new while trying to conquer a fun game of “Cover the Card” Bingo. Our photographer was busy taking pictures of couples, friends and groups! HBC Member sent in over 350 pictures to be used in the 2018 Year in Review Slide Show that played throughout the evening and highlighted the year’s rides, events and socials. Everyone loved it!
Banquet guests were treated to a delicious dinner buffet of salmon, beef tips and lemon basil chicken along with sides and several delicious desserts and ice cream. A cash bar was busy all evening offering craft beers, wines and mixed drinks for guests.
The evenings program began with the introduction of our 2018 officers and event chairs that highlighted the success of the Spring Fling Weekend, The Finger Lakes Trip, The Three Creek Century, The Fall Tour to Cape May and the Williamsburg Fall Weekend trip. All of these events triggered happy memories, new friendships and positive comments from our members!
Special recognition and individual awards were given to thank our ride leaders for their commitment to our club. This year over 30 ride leaders were treated to VIP passes for this banquet for taking a special interest in our club and leading and posting a minimum of 5 rides in 2018.
Bill Pickering presented Dick Norford alias “Mr Wonderful” the Cape May Brick for his assistance on the 2018 Fall Tour as Sag Driver.
After a review of several outstanding nominees, Harrisburg Bicycle Club officers selected Sharon Brumbaugh as the 2018 recipient of the “Service before Self Award” for her long time commitment to our club. Sharon served HBC for many years in several different capacities. (Please see the article on this award in this newsletter.)
Throughout the evening, guests were delighted with winning 50 door prizes that were donated by our local bicycle shops and business partners and we raised $530 on Silent Auction items that were donated by members. The donations from these items went to the Janet F Pontius Safety Fund.
As an additional thank you from the banquet committee, the pictures taken by our guest photographer earlier in the evening were waiting for everyone to pick up and take with them at the end of the evening.
Thank you for making the 2018 HBC Annual Banquet a success!
