East Shore Fall Tour Warm-up Ride #1

Saturday, August 18

Lititz Pretzel Ride – 62 miles

8:00 a.m. Hershey Briarcrest Square

Ride Leader: Jim Buckheit   717-805-8213

Join us for a beautiful but challenging ride to Lititz and back from Hershey. Total climbing just over 3,000 feet. The ride mimics the terrain of the second day of the Fall Tour, the most challenging day of the tour. We will ride at touring pace 11-12 mph, take regular breaks and time for an early lunch in Lititz. Take a few minutes to visit the Wilbur Chocolate Factory, Sturgis Pretzel House or Tomato Pie Café before riding through Lititz Springs Park on our return journey along the rolling hills, ridge lines and productive farms back to Hershey. Cue sheets will be provided for those who want to ride at a faster pace or spend additional time in Lititz.  All welcome to participate, including those not participating in the Fall Tour.

This route is a micro-version of the Fall Tour route with several good climbs in the beginning and flatter riding in the second half of the ride. Most of the route is on quiet back roads. There are several options for rest rooms, water and food along the way, but bring a snack. This ride will go rain or shine, unless weather conditions are hazardous. Some cue sheets will be provided but you might want to print your own. Riders can break into small groups based on average speed, so come prepared to read cue sheets. I’ll be leading a group at an 11-12 mph pace. GPS directions and cue sheets can be found at this link. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28022474

Park near the Market Cafe, at the east end of the Wegmans building. Park as far away from the building as possible to the east as a courtesy. Optional lunch afterwards at Wegmans Market Cafe which offers a large assortment of quick-serve foods, like pizza, sushi, subs, a hot food bar and much more.
